As a graduate of the Masters of Science in Physical Therapy program at the University of Toronto, I work with my clients to improve mobility, restore function, relieve pain, and prevent injury. Implementing my knowledge with previously gained experience and qualifications allows me to provide a holistic approach to enhancing your quality of life.
Omnia is a leader in providing quality, patient-centred care. Her physiotherapy practice includes biomechanical evaluation of underlying signs and symptoms. She provides evidence-based treatment to correct underlying mechanical imbalances and promote patient independence. She feels the most vital tool to give a client is education regarding their injury/condition so they may understand why they are in pain and therefore what can be done to resolve this.

There are many types of Physiotherapy and many areas where Physiotherapists work, such as organ transplant, joint replacement, stroke rehabilitation, children’s development, palliative care, and even animal rehabilitation! However, the most common and likely type of Physiotherapy for people to encounter is Musculoskeletal, or general practice, Physiotherapy. Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy deals with injuries related to your muscles, bones, and connective tissue, such as low back pain, headaches, concussion, sprains, strains, tendinitis, etc.
If you need to use your body for work, hobbies, or activities…basically for anything…then you will need Physiotherapy at some point in time of your life. We often explain to people that our bodies are just like a car; when the car is new, and we are young, you don’t need to do much maintenance or seek any care, but as the car and our body gets older, you need to replace parts, get more oil changes, and take care of the car. Well, our bodies are no different. Some people choose to see a Physiotherapist a few times a year as a check-up, just like with a car, to identify and address a problem before it actually begins affecting their life. Others wait until they experience pain before seeing a Physiotherapist. At the end of the day if someone wants to find the root cause of their pain, and not just hide the pain with medication, then they will need Physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy in Ottawa and in Ontario is covered by most extended health plans. However in certain circumstances, such as if the patient is a minor or a senior, or if they were injured on the job or in a car accident, then they would be covered by OHIP, WSIB, or the respective car insurance company. One often unknown fact is that any passenger or pedestrian involved in a car accident will be covered for treatment, regardless of age or if they have car insurance. If you are unsure if your injury is covered, first consult your family doctor as they are the ones that can start your WSIB and OHIP referral.
Physiotherapy starts by doing an in-depth assessment of your medical histories, such as any previous injuries, medical conditions, or family history before moving on to the physical portion. The physical assessment includes seeing how your joints move, the strength of your muscles, the stability of your ligaments, the sensitivity of your nerves, and how your body works together as a whole. The Physiotherapist then takes all the information gained from both portions of the assessment to prescribe a home treatment program that will not only address your concerns but also treat the root cause and contributing factors so that you avoid any risk of re-injury.
Physiotherapy is short for Physical Therapy. It uses the science of physics, chemistry, biology, and human physiology to both identify and treat issues within the body that result in dysfunctional, or painful, movement.
Naturally, as we age, whether due to the ageing process or due to an accident or injury, there comes a time where you will experience pain or difficulty when trying to move your body or performing an activity. A Physiotherapist uses their specialist knowledge of the human body to identify the root cause of your pain, and how to stop it from coming back, rather than just mask your pain with temporary relief.
In Ottawa, physiotherapy treatment insurance coverage depends on the provinces. For example, in Ontario, physiotherapy care can be claimed under personal or group health insurance, in a package that is separate or combined with other care such as chiropractic care. It is better to inquire about that with your insurance company before financing your physiotherapy treatments.
The government investment in physiotherapy provides 90,000 more seniors and qualified patients access to publicly financed clinic-based services in more communities throughout the province. The publicly funded clinics are divided into areas of the province represented by Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs).
If you are financially restricted and still need physiotherapy treatment, we can help you by following up with your family doctor to find out the eligibility for a referral to one of the OHIP-funded clinics to resume physiotherapy care. Due to the high demand for OHIP-funded care, keep in mind that your name will be on a waiting list. If you need any kind of advice from our health professionals, feel free to contact us today.
