No. Chiros are legislated as primary health care professionals in every province in Canada. This means that patients can consult them directly. However, we often work closely with medical health care professionals and doctors, many of whom refer to chiropractors when they believe chiropractic treatment will help alleviate a patient’s condition. Similarly, chiropractors frequently refer to medical doctors when necessary.

There are many risk factors for stroke including blood clotting problems, hypertension, smoking, high cholesterol, birth control pills, heart problems and trauma such as blows to the head from car accidents, sports injuries or falls. Some strokes happen spontaneously with no obvious cause during activities of daily living such as backing up a car. A patient’s health history and activities have to be examined very carefully in order to determine the most probable cause of a stroke.
An extensive commentary on chiropractic care, published in the February 2002 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine, which is the journal of the American College of Physicians, reviewed more than 160 reports and studies on chiropractic. It states the following with regard to the safety of neck adjustment: “The apparent rarity of these accidental events has made it difficult to assess the magnitude of the complication risk. No serious complication has been noted in more than 73 controlled clinical trials or in any prospectively evaluated case series to date.”
Neck adjustment, particularly of the top two vertebrae of the spine, has on rare occasions been associated with stroke and stroke-like symptoms. This risk is considerably lower than those serious adverse events associated with many common health treatments such as long-term use of non-prescription pain relievers or birth control pills. While estimates vary, a range of one to two events per million neck adjustments is the ratio generally accepted by the research community.
We developed over many years a protocol that worked best for all new patients. We found that when new patients book first with chiropractic care, they will notice that the pain decreases so much faster, and mobility is restored gradually. Furthermore, the treatments are heavily based on passive care in the initial phase. It is not pleasant to do exercises or rehabilitation when one is in pain. We recommend therefore you book an appointment with one of our chiropractors first. When you pain is subsided, then your case will be managed by a physiotherapist.
There are many reasons to seek chiropractic care: work injuries, car accidents, sports injuries, overall health, household chores strain, even the stress of daily living can cause painful joint, spinal problems and other related physical health concerns. Even if you do not have painful symptoms, chiropractic care can help you maintain a healthy spine and joint function. We have created a list of extensive medical conditions that are known to respond well with chiropractic care. Read more by clicking here.

A Chiropractic Spinal Manipulation (also known as Chiropractic Adjustment) is a highly skilled and precise movement usually applied by hand to a joint of the body. An adjustment loosens the joint to restore proper movement and optimize function. When a joint is adjusted, a gas bubble escapes causing the popping noise you may have heard about. Chiropractic adjustment techniques have been researched extensively. Complications are rare and side-effects, such as temporary soreness, are usually minor. Your chiropractor is well-trained to determine if your problem will respond well to chiropractic care or if you require referral to another health care provider.
Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. It is used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment.

We’re always very excited to bring new advanced medical technology to our clinic. We will announce the arrival of “Spinal Decompression” through Facebook, website and email when it is finally installed within our facility. A lot of family doctors choose specific clinics to refer their patients for Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression. It is a type of motorized traction that may help relieve back pain, neck pain, sciatica, spinal stenosis and cervical radiculopathy. Spinal decompression works by stretching the spine. Subsequently, this modifies the force and position of the spine, taking pressure off the spinal disks, which are gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine. As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. In turn, this retraction helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.
The model of decompression bed we are using is Triton DTS®. Visit their company’s website to learn more about it.
Graston Technique® is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively address scar tissue and fascial restrictions through comprehensive training, resulting in improved patient outcomes. The technique uses specially-designed stainless steel instruments, along with appropriate therapeutic exercise, to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. The instruments also are used diagnostically to follow the kinetic chain, to locate and treat the cause of the symptom as well as the specific area of pain. While it is used heavily for athletic population, it can be used for any condition that cause muscles, tendons and ligaments to become tight, scarred and restricted. It can also be used to relieve trigger points and referred muscular pain.
Physiotherapy is anchored in movement sciences and aims to enhance or restore function of multiple body systems. The profession is committed to health, lifestyle and quality of life. This holistic and manual approach incorporates a broad range of physical and physiological therapeutic interventions and aids.
It depends on the provinces. In Ontario, physiotherapy care can be claimed under personal or group health insurance, in a package that is separate or combined with other care such as chiropractic care. It is your responsibility to inquire about that with your insurance company before financing your treatments. The government is investing in physiotherapy, giving 90,000 more seniors and eligible patients access to publicly funded clinic-based services in more communities across the province. The publicly funded clinics is divided in areas of the province represented by Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs). If you are financially restricted and you still need physiotherapy care, we will follow-up with your family doctor to see if you can be eligible for a referral to one of the OHIP-funded clinics to resume physiotherapy care. Due to high demand for OHIP-funded physiotherapy care, keep in mind that your name will be on a waiting list.

Of course. Chiropractic care is very safe for pregnant women. Our chiropractors can help to manage back pain, chronic spinal, joints, or muscle pain of pregnant women.
The more acute the injury is, the more frequent you may need Chiropractic sessions. That’s because we want to stimulate healing as soon as possible before the body starts to adapt to the injury erroneously and lead to more problems. If you are coming to the clinic for preventative care, a one-a-month treatment at your chiropractor’s office should be sufficient.

Chiropractic adjustments do not hurt. Discomfort is expected during the first few sessions especially if the patient has been battling with chronic pain for a long time. We always follow up with our new patients to ensure they have a good recovery after their first treatment.
Patients who experience chiropractic care reported less stiffness, less pain, better sleep, a greater sense of relief, that their body feels “less tense”. Endorphins are released immediately after a chiropractic adjustment which leads to all these positive outcomes. Many people choose chiropractic care because it is not invasive, non-pharmaceutical and very safe.
